Plating
Chrome
Our show-quality chrome has a very deep, rich, blue tone. It is a generally thin, yet extremely durable finish. Chrome has many applications, including automotive and motorcycle parts, household fixtures and industrial uses. We chrome everything from grills and window frames to brackets and bolts. Properly maintained, the finish will last for years to come!
Brass
Brass is a bright, golden finish, a soft metal that will tarnish and wear with use and
age especially in a humid environment. It is commonly used on door knobs, hinges, faucets, lamps and other household objects. It can be clear-coated to protect the item for longer periods of time.
Zinc
Zinc plating is generally used as a corrosion inhibitor. Costing is very thin, so that close tolerances are not usually affected. Although it is quite durable, zinc can wear and fade over time when exposed to the elements. Zinc is a wonderful primer for paint and is available in three colors:
-
Blue or clear, this finish is actually a silver tone
-
Yellow, yellow-gold with iridescent hues
-
Black, also with iridescent patterns, giving the finish an oil-slick look.
Nickel
At first glance, nickel often looks like chrome, but the two are distinctly different!
Chrome has a deep, blue luster, while nickel has a slightly yellow tone and can yellow more with age. Antique items such as wood burning stoves and lamps are often nickel-plated. Nickel can be used for a variety of applications, including facets and lighting fixtures as well as door hardware. Satin/brushed nickel closely matches satin/brushed stainless steel, just like many kitchen sinks or oven doors. Nickel is also the correct finish for many pre-1930 vehicles. Nickel can rush if left at the mercy of the elements for extended periods of time.
Copper
Just like a shiny new penny, copper plating will tarnish with age. However, the natural "verde" patina is a very desirable quality for many products. Door knobs, hinges, custom signs and plaques look great with bright or aged copper. It is ideal for outdoor applications, because it will not rust. If you desire a mirror finish, copper can be maintained with a polish and sealer, or the copper plating can be clear-coated.
